Network Sharing Turns Off Automatically in Windows

Network Sharing Turns Off Automatically in Windows

If you’ve ever tried enabling network sharing in Windows but noticed that it keeps reverting back to off, you’re not alone. This issue usually occurs when certain Windows services required for sharing and discovery are not running or are disabled.

To fix this problem, you need to make sure the following services are enabled and set to Automatic (or Manual depending on the case):

✅ Required Services to Enable Network Sharing

  • Function Discovery Provider Host
  • Function Discovery Resource Publication
  • SSDP Discovery
  • UPnP Device Host
  • DNS Client

🔧 How to Enable These Services

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. In the Services window, look for each of the services listed above.
  3. Right-click → Properties → set Startup type to Automatic (or Manual where required).
  4. Click Start if the service is not already running.
  5. Apply changes and restart your PC.

📌 Conclusion

By enabling these key services, you ensure that network sharing remains active and your PC can communicate properly with other devices on the same network. This is especially useful in home networks, file sharing setups, and printer sharing scenarios.
