Fig 1: Switch | Networking Device
Switch is the networking device which is also known as the layer 2 device and that layer is the data link layer of the Open System Interconnection Model. A switch is a bit different than a hub you may have heard the term hub and hub is an older device in which all the data going from every device is sent out to every port in that switch a switch is a bit more clever and only sends the data over to the device that actually wants it and not back to all the other devices. This device is the intelligent device than the hub networking device. This device is the device that is broadcasting when the switching table is not complete and if the switching table once complete then it broadcasting change into the unicasting. Switch is the device that is very helpful and used for the storing of the "Media Access Controller Address which is also known as the Mac Address and it's another name is physical address" of the connected devices. Switch is the device that has many ports and these amount of ports are greater than the ports of the Hub.

Following are the Switch Features:

    1.  It is also known as the Ethernet device.
    2. Switch is commonly used in the Token Ring architecture and fiber channel architecture.
    3. Switch is the device that can be works on the layer 2 and layer 3 that are Data link layer and Network layer respectively and that kind of switch is called the Multi Layer Switch (MLS).
    4. Switch is the device that is use to find the source and the destination addresses of every packet.
    5. Switch is also known as the router resembling device.
    6. Switch is use to filter out the traffic.
    7. Switch is the efficient device because of it's filtering traffic process.
    8. Switch has the ability to set QOS.
    9. Switch has the ability of the access control features.
    10. Switch support the half duplex and full duplex and also as well as the Bandwidth.
